Zara Phillips, Granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth,
Zara Phillips wed Mike Tindall Saturday, July 30. She is Queen Elizabeth’s eldest granddaughter and an award-winning equestrian and he is a rugby player. The pair wed at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The dress Phillips wore was an ivory silk faille creation by Stuart Parvin and a Greek key tiara belonging to her mother, The Princess Royal, which had been a gift to Queen Elizabeth from her own mother-in-law and given to Princess Anne in 1972.
The event was a lower-key affair compared with this year’s earlier wedding of Phillips’ cousin William, Prince of Wales to Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Phillips is known for her laid-back style and, despite being granddaughter of the Queen, holds no royal title, at the request of her mother at her birth.
While Phillips and Tindall may have opted for a smaller wedding, theirs was by no means a dull affair. The Daily Mail quoted a royal source as saying, “It was just a family knees-up. Your archetypal wedding, really. Except with a lot of royals and rugby players. And a lot of drinking. In fact make that a hell of a lot of drinking.” The source continued, “Pretty much everyone stayed up all night. I don't even think Zara and Mike went to bed.
